Cave Coopérative de l'Enfer

The enfer of arvier, intense, with a full-bodied taste, was one of the first wines of Aosta to obtain the certification of D.O.C in 1972. The vineyards from where it draw origin reside in the commune of Arvier, mainly on the left orografica zone of the Dora Baltea, zone historically assigned to this cultivation. Still today are visible the ancient terracings that climb until the base of the rocky slopes overhanging. The structure of the valley constitutes a natural amphitheater, that allows to the vines to develop itself in the better conditions, being constantly sunny and from here the name of "enfer". The terraces cultivated to vineyard interrupt the strong slope of the mountain: here the work is mainly manual.

In 1978 it was constituted the Coopérative of "enfer", the Co-Enfer, a cooperative that manages all of the wine-producing activity, included the the bottling of wine and the commercialization of this jewlery of the oenology. The ninety partners contribute every year to the accomplishment of a small quantitative one of quality (about 40 thousand bottles), realized with the 85% of grapes Petit Rouge and for the other portion with other five types of vines authorized by the discipliner. It springs a wine that quite is good to be joined with the meats. Typicalness, this one, that derives mainly from two factors: the quality of the ground and the high exhibition to the sun, which allow to the Petit Rouge, native vine, to express the better way his feature.

Today the Co-Enfer has transferred to the new cellar, that, simply maintaining unchanged the traditional methods of working and will be provided of extremely advanced technologies. This novelty, with the increasing request of this wine aside the consumers,has given the start to the installation of new vineyards that will extend the surface of vines of the zone, carrying it out from four present hectares to eight-ten in a few years. At the social cellar of Arvier it is possible to find also a prestigious grappa, that is distributed in a number limited of bottles.

The production of the Co-Enfer is also obtainable at the stocks of vintage wines and in the different exercises of the small and large distribution or directly at the main-point of the Cooperative in Via Corrado Gex n° 52 in Arvier – AOSTA.
